Sustainable Fishing Practices

Human beings are doing fishing for thousands of years. The Tagbauna people of the Philippines have set a good example in this regard. They go for species based on the time, condition of the tides, moon, etc. They have also fixed some areas as to where fishing at any time of the year is strictly prohibited.
The dependence on ocean resources is also observed in the traditional Polynesian cultures of the South Pacific. Historically their fishing practices include hook and line, cast nets and spearfishing. Hooks are prepared from shell, bone or stone. They use different hooks to catch specific species of fish. Some fishers also used nets cast from canoes or shores to catch particular fishes.
